Hello!

I believe that reading is a great equalizer and helps people get out of their own life and step into other people’s shoes. But, life gets hectic and it can be hard to know where to start!

Book reviews are extremely helpful, but can also be very misleading when they’re written by a company attempting to make money off of you.

Reading to Distraction is my attempt to give you a quick, concise view of books I have discovered, and hopefully inspire some new reads in your life.

About Me

At the moment I live in Turlock, CA where I work remotely in the renewable energy industry and help support decarbonization one project at a time. In my free time (when I’m not reading), you’ll find me running, hiking, rowing, or generally spending as much time outdoors with my pup, family and friends as possible.

Read, read, read. Read everything — trash, classics, good and bad, and see how they do it. Just like a carpenter who works as an apprentice and studies the master. Read! You’ll absorb it. Then write. If it’s good, you’ll find out. If it’s not, throw it out of the window.
— William Faulkner
  • I’m happiest outdoors whether that’s trail running, hiking, or forest bathing. A very quick second to that is curled up with a book in a nook, maybe a hot chocolate, and heavy blanket. I chose to use mountains on the headers as a tribute to my love of these space and to hopefully inspire a trip either in person or via a good read.

  • Nope! These are my 100% honest opinions and I have in no way been compensated for my review. If I am given a book in exchange for a review, I make sure to denote that in the post.

  • The current schedule is...as often as I can. I’m getting back in the swing of things and a new cadence will be updated soon

  • I haven't yet reviewed all the books I have read, but I am working through the list. If you would like to make a request, please contact me at ReadingToDistraction@gmail.com. If you are an author or publisher, please check out my review guidelines here.

  • Bummer! I respect your right to an opinion, please respect mine as well. I’d love to discuss books with you and always appreciate a good debate - check me out on social media to catch up!

  • I do not discriminate among books though you will notice I am naturally drawn to certain genres. Often I read books based on requests, current interests or if I’m trying to learn about something. If you'd like to make a request, please contact me at ReadingToDistraction@gmail.com.

  • I pick books based on what catches my interest - the more excited I am about a book, the quicker it will make to the top of the stack!

  • I hate this question because there are so many fantastic books out there it's hard to pick and choose. On Monday I may be in a Jane Austen mood, but on Tuesday I'd prefer Robert Heinlein. How can you compare those two?

That being said, there are certainly books I read and re-reading, which I think is the best indicator. If the book is still relevant and enjoyable at different ages it is a winner to me! I'd recommend checking out Reviews by Rating for my “Bookshelf of Fame”. These are the books, both old and new, that have me the most excited!
