Review:

In honor of the movie version just being released, I re-read this book on vacation.  Though I read it for the first time many years ago, it is still just as touching and relevant.  In many ways I consider this the “original” dystopian novel, but it certainly is not as harsh as some of the recent examples such as “Divergent”, “Hunger Games” etc.

“The Giver” is so intriguing because a culture of protection permeates our daily lives.  Children are protected from any possible harm and adults from anticipated fears.  Our culture has become uncomfortable with uncertainty.  This book provides a poignant commentary on what it means to truly live your life and the overall human experience.

Who Should Read It? Everyone should give this one a shot!
