Autumn (Dog Days #1)

Summary:

Cooper Reynolds's life is going to the dogs... literally.

As if being a high school senior in a small Texas town wasn't hard enough, Cooper has bigger things to worry about than who he'll take to prom and whether or not the Poisonfoot Padres will win homecoming. He has less than a year before his eighteenth birthday, when a curse placed on his family will doom him to live in coyote form forever.

The last thing he needs to complicate his already messed-up life is a girl, but fate has other plans in mind for him when it brings Eloise "Lou" Whittaker to Poisonfoot. She's grouchy, sarcastic and has no love for her new Texas home, but she might be exactly the right person to help Cooper break the curse.

The clock is ticking, and Cooper will have to decide if he's willing to let Lou in on his dirty little secret before it's too late.  (Summary and cover courtesy of goodreads.com)

Review:

I really enjoy this book and series.  Eloise is the perfect combination of spunky, funny and feisty as she transitions to a new school.  She isn’t afraid to be herself and still manages to balance different group’s expectations while doing so.  The story itself has just a touch of a creepy and mysterious factor, but doesn’t let it get too overblown which is perfect for this scared-y cat.  I was immediately intrigued by the circumstances of the curse since it’s a little different than anything else I’ve read in the paranormal genre.  It was a breath of fresh air.

This was certainly not a book that you can read as a standalone so if you’re going to give it a shot, be forewarned that you’re committing yourself to the series.  BUT in good news, you can enter to win the entire series and then you don’t have to worry about getting sequel when you burn through this one!

Stay tuned for reviews of the subsequent books!

Warning: Contains some mild violence

Rating: 5 stars!

Who should read it? Folks looking for a relaxed, fun paranormal mystery combo.
