Review:

I love love this book.  There are some things that I don’t agree with politically, but I really love the angle that he addresses the problems.  (As other have noted, keep in mind this book was written in 1959.) I think I like Heinlein so much because he doesn’t hesitate on any of his punches.  It is what it is, and that’s how the world operates.

Aside from the politics, I found the book to be one that I was immediately caught up in and didn’t want to put down at any point.  If you’re already a science fiction fan, I think it’s a classic that everyone should give a shot.  If you’re not already a science fiction fan, I might suggest a few others first, but this one is still going to be appealing.  One note: My dad gave this one to me when I was 12-13 and I just couldn’t get into it.  It felt a little slow.  I think I was a little young at that point, but I do think it would appeal to a lot of teens.

Note: I have never seen the movie and heard it’s abysmal.  Don’t judge the book based on it.

Warning: Contains repeated violence and sexual content.

Rating: 5 stars!

Who should read it? Fans of science fiction – particularly “Ender’s Game”.  Consider this a “grown up” version (although that book is highly recommended to all ages).
